      Unfortunately it won't bolt on direct since the 2.5T came with a TD04L turbo rather than the more common TD04HL. So you can either source a used TD04HL to build from or machine the center housing of your TD04L to fit. Thanks!

      Yes, however you will need to machine the center housing to allow for the larger wheel.

      Performance gains without tuning are certainly there, not as much as when you match ECU tuning with your hard parts of course. Typically on stock ECU when upgrading to 19T you'll see 15-20 bhp depending on fuel quality and environment. Email us at ardtuning@gmail.com for shipping quotes :)

    As a new Volvo owner (05 V70R) I have to say, Great video! Makes me wish I lived on the west coast!!... I have a challenge for you ARD... Come up with a good 4C "strut delete" for the S60R / V70R cars... if there were a good one stop shop to buy the struts and springs I would need to get rid of my 4C struts when they start leaking then I'm all about it!!

      Chris, Thanks so much for the kind words! We do offer 4C strut delete programming but at this time it is only done through our local service shop. It can be done remotely but won't be available through our softloader program until later this summer. Thanks

      Most turbo rebuilds will be somewhat similar to this one however each will likely have its own caveat :)

    so ive got a 2000 s70 2.4 no turbo i was wondering if the ard orange tune could or would work on my volvo since i have some light work done it.. but i dont know if its only for turbo volvos or not... can someone please help. . thanks

      Tuning for Non turbo models only nets minimal gains and in most cases any changes you make to the engine configuration can be handled natively with ECU adaptions. So tuning is hard to justify on these non turbo models :(

    I want to do this to my td04 2002 wrx. Do I need a tune after this mod? I have an sti tmic/sti splitter/spt intake and indivia up pipe. No ecu codes for now! Thanks

      Re-tuning is not required however if you want to realize the full benefit these parts offer tuning is needed.

    can an rn motor be built (internally) as 400+ hp daily driver? or is it best to just do a v70r engine?

      Yes, with proper supporting components you can make an RN engine take as much as 650 bhp in the 81 mm bore. Larger 83mm bore engine (Like the V70R) tend to have liner issues at just above 400 bhp. So bear that in mind...

      Always a good idea to balance the turbine and compressor together even if the compressor wheel is new. In a pinch we've installed without balancing and had good results (a large number of our customers do this as well) however the proper method is to rebalance any time a turbo is disassembled.

    Waht is the exact model number of this td04? Im asking as im looking for exactly t3-size exhaust inlet and the compressor outlet pointing exactly where it points on this one relative to the position of the exaust inlet, and also with straight exhaust outlet rhather than angled. On what model/make/year/engine-type car can it be found? And - is there a 16T version which is identcal to this?

      This turbo is a Volvo TD04HL-15G flat back style typically found on Volvo 850 models 1994-1997 :)

      We recommend and use the Mellet kits : www.ardideas.com/TD04HL-Turbo-Rebuild-Kit-Super-Back_p_133.html As for compressor wheel, depends on your power goals... Our 19T conversion wheel is good to approx 300 bhp depending on supporting mods etc..

    Hey Robert, when turbo shops that say I will machine the turbo balance it put a bigger compressor wheel, billet 11 blade 58mm. Is that what you just did minus the machining the and balancing. It gets a little confusing.

      For our kit the 19T is larger than the standard 13G, 15G, 16T, and 18T turbos on the inducer while the exducer is standard 56mm which makes it bolt in. No need to machine anything :) Balancing is always a good idea anytime a turbocharger has been disassembled for rebuild.

    I'm in the middle of rebuilding my turbo but ran into a problem. After tightening the compressor nut the turbine doesn't spin freely anymore. Any advice?

      +trajik78 Typically we see cars with basic mods (downpipe, intercooler, etc..) realize 270-290 whp depending on environment, fuel quality and tuning with this turbo. Each car and setup is different of course but this proves to be pretty repeatable results day by day. Thanks!

      +Pypamid They are used for the support of the bearings on the interior side. Some folks replace them, some just use the originals as they can be a bit hard to access without special tools :)

    Hello, I have a Shogun 2.8TD It runs standard 125bhp with a 12T td04. I am aiming for anything upto 180bhp. Is the 12t to 19t jump advisable or should I go with 15T? I don't want to have issues with boost creep etc.

    im in the process of making a decision on what im going to do to my 92 vr-4. i want to make my stock turbos with the best quality and performance parts its much cheaper then swapping them with a whole new set of turbos. im no expert, so im relying on other peoples feedback to guide me. im on 3si.org and now that i have come across you i would appreciate any info i can get. can i change my bearings to ceramic ball bearings? and what kind of turbines should i swap out of my stock turbos so they still have the original OEM bolt on feel when i send them out for rebuild? i just dont want any crazy custom fabrication needed or anything like that would prefer a direct bolt on. i was looking at the 19t compressor and 9 blade turbine wheel.

      +michael makrop I've done some digging but haven't found any name brand bearings replacement sets to convert to ceramic ball bearings. Granted there may be something out there but not from the big 4 suppliers that I typically work with. So might be worth poking around google for some turbo builders in your area...?     looks easy to do. if I can hear the turbine scratching sometimes and it stops spinning and leaks oil as I. billowing smoke out the exhaust, what are the chances the blades and shaft is damaged? I want to have the right parts before I take the thing all apart...

      +Kyle Dupont It is highly likely the turbine blades and shaft are damaged if you can hear them scraping on the turbine housing. I would plan on a new one unless you can disassemble first and inspect. Some upgrade options are the 11 blade and 9 blade TD04HL turbine wheels if you're looking for something other than stock :)

      +Robert Arnold you were right, the turbine fins were all mangled on the edges. there was also a almost a quart of oil in the inner cooler! I ordered a turbo cartridge instead of rebuilding it

    I've got a '98 V70 T5M with 256k miles currently. My plan has been on getting it to 300k before dropping money in it to rebuild/update/upgrade it. I just came across this video about swapping in an RN engine and wondered if in the long run it would be better going that route than rebuilding what I've got. Does the M56 transmission need any modification to attach to the newer engine? I'm not looking to max out horsepower, but I want to keep it fun and I would love it to be able to last another 150 - 200k miles while keeping things on a budget.

      +Eric Villanueva The M56 will bolt up to the later RN engines without issue. Just be sure to use a flywheel/clutch combo that matches your trans and setup and you're good to go!

    One thing I don't really see around the internet is upgrading the TS04 10T turbo. As far as I know, that's what's on my F4R 776 engine 2005 Renault Scenic, and I do know, that for example the Megane RS's F4R 774 uses a TD04 14T which can be upgraded to 19T spec. What can be done with my 10T? Do I need to change the housing as well?

      +Gázser Márk Without measurements of the compressor it's hard to say but typically a billet wheel is a pretty easy upgrade in most cases. Beyond that you may need to consider larger frame size to increase power to a significant degree, of course that's based on what you're shooting for with regard to bph...

    Just tried to put this together today, and i'm having issues with the wheel not spinning freely after beeing tightened to 5nm. It spins fine before tightening. Any ideas?

      Markuz Z Id make sure the correct backing plate is used (super back vs. flat back). That's my first guess :)

    ARD Tuning I have a 2004 subaru forester xt (ej255) with a td05-20g-8cm^2 (8cm^2=hotside a/r of .57). I was wondering if i could replace the 20g wheel with an 18g wheel. Would it be a direct swap with no other modification needed ? I would probably need a re-balance after correct ? Could you recommend a good 18g wheel for me to purchase ? I also have a td05-18g-7cm^2 (7cm^2=hotside a/r of .49) would swapping the hotsides be an easier solution to get the end result of td05-18g-8cm^2 (8cm^2=hotside a/r of .57) . If they sell the tdo5 housing both with the 20g wheel and the 18g wheel then what is the difference ? Isn't a td05 housing a td05 housing no matter what compressor wheel is inside of it or maybe i'm wrong ? But just because there is an 18g compressor wheel or a 20g compressor wheel doesn't change the fact that its a td05 housing right? I would have it professionally balanced, but i think i'm more than capable of taking it apart. It's simply nuts, bolts and snap rings, nothing to be scared of. What i'm saying is i basically have all the parts between my two turbos to build exactly what i'm looking for which is a td05-18g-8cm^2. I was really asking what is the easiest route to take. Swapping compressor wheels, or the hotside housings Thanks, Phil
